Hat Update: April 2024

What am I starting?

This post marks the beginning of some sort of soft newsletter / blog, where I can drop in irregular updates around current projects, research and freelance work – in the form of different hats.

The idea of it being an update on ‘my hats’ might chime with many freelance artists and the constant juggle many of us are doing. I also can’t say no to some useful compartmentalisation of thoughts.

Current hats I’m wearing:

Bells hat – ‘Can You Call a Touch?’ is an ACE funded DYCP project exploring English change ringing and performance. Back in March we spent time filming ringing in my local church in Warwickshire. We finalise the editing of some recent filming in St Michaels’ Church, Bishops Itchington. I’m looking forward to sharing this new body of work soon. I will also be looking for sharing opportunities over the next 12 months.

WHW Akademija hat – As of 9th April, WHW Akademija has officially started. I am one of 12 artists selected for this artist development programme in Zagreb. This year’s programme focuses on the practice of care and collectivity, which connects with my current projects and freelance work.

Dazzle hat – *This is not an announcement of this project’s return.* After time away from the project to reflect on it’s two year run, I am now looking to begin new research connected to the Dazzle Club project. In the wake of the recent AI Act in Europe, it feels an important time to reconnect with this work.

Freelance hat – Current clients include Shape Arts and Tim Etchells.
